Not to mention the hidden island after ages and ages of chocobo races and breeding for the KOTR matieria. 7 hands down for plot/characters.
For graphics and a fun time, I like 10.
For oldschool, I like 1-4
For when I feel like advanced battles, I like FFTactics.
That's me.

Graphics wise FFX and FFX2 were gorgeous, but needed a better storyline. FFX was ok with storyline, but FFX2 was horrible.... or at least how they implimented it anyway.

I found 8 more enjoyable than 7 although I don't know why. The card game in it is one of the best minigames in the whole FF series.
I never really liked the battle system in 7 either. Everyone else loved it but it annoyed the hell out of me.

Plot--FFT... try to sort out that mess
Graphics--FFX simply because it's better
Music/sound--(My personal preference) FF8
Gameplay--The older ones (1-5/6) as I'm more into old styles than this "innovation" stuff
Characterization--FFT. Pretty good character development, etc.

I once tried getting the 9000 gold to see if you could buy the elixir from Tristram at the start. Only got to 4000 before my save file got trashed.
Tactics hands down, but VI is right there with it. If you haven't played it, get that that game. Think I have at least one memory card full of 99+ hour saves of FFT.

I'm going to say FF8.. only coz I played it before FF7 and enjoyed it a lot more. Since then I've played FF8 3 more times and enjoyed every moment of it. The card game is so much fun and I liked the characters. I don't know if Chrono Trigger counts but that comes either 2nd or 3rd after FF8 in my book.

Of course, FF7, but I also really enjoyed 10. X2 was such a disapointment, the whole garment system and all that jus.. ruined it a bit for me.

Graphics; Final Fantasy X (10)
Sound; Final Fantasy VIII (8)
Storyline; Final Fantasy IX (9)
Character Design; Final Fantasy IX (9)
Battle System; Final Fantasy X (10)
I REALLY enjoyed playing IX (9), loved the battle system in 10, and 7 was just...best game ever for it's time when it was made, loved playing it.
I'm just a big Final Fantasy fan !
CAN'T WAIT FOR FF VII ADVENT CHILDREN >__>>>> AHHHH

As is probably obvious from my avatar, I found VII to be the most enthralling. IX wasn't too bad either.

X and X-2 just annoyed me. Tidus was a whiny little runt. And while I'll admit Squall was your equivilant of an "emo", I did like FF8 a lot. But, of course, my personal favourite has to be FF7. The nitty gritty atomsphere mixed with great but rusty technology was just peeeerfect.

I would have to say my favorite is 6, it was the first one I played, and it has a great, character-oriented story. 7's cloud-oriented story just bugged me. Tactics is a very very close second though!

Overall favorite would have to be VII. Seven was definately the most "insane" in a sense that the bad guy was crazy as hell, and everything from Shinra to Cloud's screwed up false reality for himself was really entrancing. The others seemed to..."fantasy", I know that sounds weird since it's called Final Fantasy, but VII seemed like you could picture that sort of thing happening. Also I loved just what you could do with your characters, my second favorite is 9, but I hate how it doesn't give you the freedom of customization that seven did.
FFVII is just plain great. Sure it had shitty player models over absolutely wicked backgrounds, but I loved it that way.

FF9 wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't so damn easy.
